The Haunting of Sker House

A tragic love story, this concerns a young woman name Elizabeth, daughter to the gentleman farmer Isaac Williams.

Against her father’s wishes, Elizabeth had fallen in love with a local carpenter, who was also a skilled harpist– Isaac was furious when he discovered that his daughter had fallen for someone of such low status. He forbade the relationship but as young romances often go, they ignored his wishes and continued to see each other in private. They planned to elope.

When the fateful night came, Thomas the harpist hired a carriage to take them away, but on approach to the house the farm dog’s began barking. Worried that he had been caught out, Thomas left, and when Isaac discovered their plan he locked his daughter in her own bedroom. He refused to set her free until she agreed to marry a more respectable man. She finally acquiesced , but just a few years later died of a broken heart, having never had the chance to be with her love.

The property has since been the subject of many supposed hauntings – from  uneasy feelings to shadowy figures in the dark, the presence always seems to be worst in Elizabeth’s room. Wailing cries can sometimes be heard – presumably this is Elizabeth, crying for her lost love.
