Llyn Peninsula

Reaching out to Ireland from north west of Wales, the area of Llyn is historically a pilgrimage route on the way to Bardsey Island – a fantastic place with so much spiritual history. Thanks to the remoteness of Llyn, a lot of people here still speak Welsh, but we still get lots of visitors to our Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which covers about 160km.

Yr Eifl is out largest mountain (you can see all the way to the Lake District and the Isle of Man from the top!), but you’ll find many more alongside coat lines, cliffs, islands and stacks. We even have beautiful sandy beaches at Porth Neigwl and Castellmarch Beach.

Lleyn_sheepBe careful with nature on the Llyn Peninsula, as we’ve got a lot of protected sites! Check out:

  • the nature reserve at Cors Geirch
  • National Heritage Coastline
  • European Marine Special Area of Conservation
  • Twenty separate Sites of Special Scientific Interest
  • A rare species of the mason bee which isn’t found anywhere else
  • the Llyn Coastal Path

We also have our own sheep! A fairly new breed, the Lleyn sheep have beautiful white wool, produce quite a lot of milk, but are used mostly for meat.
