North Welsh Hampers For Picnics

The weather’s been gorgeous lately in North Wales, and after our blog detailing the best beaches in North Wales to have a barbecue we thought we’d help you to prepare for a picnic!
But what if, instead of making your own picnic at home, you bought a hamper with all the best of Wales’ produce within?

Here are our top spots for getting hampers in North Wales:

The Bodnant Bundle

The Bodnant Welsh Food Centre is the hub for all brilliant produce in the North of Wales. It can be found in Conwy Valley, amidst the views of Snowdonia, and on top of its food and drink supplies it also operates as an events centre with its own cooking school and venue.

The Bodnant Bundle contains two cheeses made on the farm, as well as some Bara Brith and hand-made Welsh salted butter. For a simple and enjoyable picnic, this is the one!

Hootan’s Home Grown

Get a variety of hamper options from Hootan’s, ready-made or picked out by you. One of their standard hampers is a Welsh breakfast box, with bacon, free-range eggs, bread, butter and much more.

The shops are full of pies, seasonal fruit and vegan, free range meat, biscuits, jams, chutneys, and even some locally-produced artisan food.

They have two farm shops to choose from: one in Brynsiencyn in Anglesey, and the other  at the Fron Goch Garden Centre in Caernarfon.

Derwen Garden Centre

The Derwent Garden Centre really has it all – a restaurant, extensive gardens, a nursery and even its own maze! Its Farm Shop has a huge range of produce from local suppliers, with a focus on organic produce.

Derwen’s supply of hampers is vast, and customisable. Starting from just £10, with some going up to £100, you can choose from a choice of Local Produce Hampers featuring local products, Organic Hampers with a range of organic wines, chocolates and coffees, or the Luxury Hamper, with champagne, cheeses, chocolates and more.

The range of food sold at the Derwen Garden Centre means you’ll always be able to find something to your tastes.

Porter’s Delicatessen

A family-run shop in Llangollen, Porter’s finds the very best local produce as well as hard-to-find ingredients for all its visitors.

They offer three types of hamper designed for holidays – a Welcome Hamper, a Welsh Hamper (Welsh cheese board with biscuits) or a Party Hamper with snacks, dips and drinks. All are available to purchase in store or online.

PS  – they also serve cheese wedding cakes. You are welcome.

The Little Cheesemonger

Based in Rhyl, The Little Cheesemonger sells an excellent variety of cheese, biscuits, preserves and confectionery. They primarily focus on stocking Welsh produce, although other artisanal treats from other countries are found as well, and have been online exclusive until this June.

They Rhuddlan store offers Premium, Traditional, Welsh and Bespoke Hampers which can be made with just about anything they stock in store including freshly bakes bread, cheese, ales, chutneys and pickles.
