The once King of North Wales, who lived in Rhuddlan Castle, had a beautiful daughter named Erilda. She was due to be married to Movern, the Prince of South Wales, in a union which would have brought piece to the country.

On her return from a royal hunt, shortly before the wedding, Erilda was separated from the rest of the group. Darkness fell and she became terrified, until the most handsome knight she had ever seen rode out of the darkness before her. He took her hand and saved her, bringing her back to her father’s castle to an incredibly grateful King.

But this was no act of chivalry. The knight was in fact a water demon, who placed a spell on the princess so that she was helpless to his charms. This demon eloped with her, but as they travelled he revealed his true, hideous form to her.

At her shock he immediately killed her, stabbing her through the heart with a trident, and flinging her body into the River Clwyd.

It’s said that she now haunts her father’s castle, in an eternal game of cat and mouse with the horrifying demon.
